Plan Your Day

Your Day on the Water

Your fishing adventure begins early—typically about 45 minutes before sunrise. Starting early allows us to take advantage of cooler temperatures and some of the best fishing conditions of the day.

Food, Drinks and Personal Comfort

We recommend eating lightly during your trip. Fruit, sandwiches, snacks, and plenty of water are excellent choices for a day on the water.

You do not need to bring a separate cooler, as the boat has a cold-storage compartment available for your food and drinks. Please be aware that restroom facilities are generally not available while we are on the water, so plan accordingly before departure.

Captain Clyde will make every reasonable effort to ensure that every guest feels comfortable and respected throughout the trip. Privacy, professionalism, and safety are always priorities.

Your Safety Comes First

Captain Clyde is an experienced, U.S. Coast Guard–licensed captain with extensive knowledge of boating and on-the-water safety.

The bass boat is designed and equipped for fishing Lake Okeechobee and the Florida Everglades. It is professionally maintained and outfitted with modern marine electronics and required safety equipment.

Catching fish may be the reason for your trip, but your safety will always come first.

Mandatory Boat Safety Rules

For everyone’s protection, the following rules must be followed:

  1. Whenever the main engine is operating, every passenger must wear a properly fastened life jacket. Life jackets will be provided.
  2. Clients may not bring firearms or other weapons aboard the boat.
  3. Alcohol may be brought aboard by clients of legal drinking age; however, it must be consumed responsibly. Intoxication or unsafe behavior will not be tolerated.
  4. All decisions made by Captain Clyde concerning weather, navigation, passenger safety, or relocation from an area are final.

Failure to follow these rules may result in the trip being ended early without a refund.

Weather and Recommended Clothing

Florida weather can change quickly, so it is best to come prepared for changing temperatures, wind, rain, and sun.

May Through September

Temperatures typically range from approximately 75°F to 95°F. Recommended clothing includes:

  • A lightweight shirt
  • Shorts or lightweight pants
  • A light windbreaker or rain jacket
  • Soft-soled, non-marking shoes
  • A hat and polarized sunglasses
  • Sunscreen

Lightweight, breathable clothing that offers protection from the sun is highly recommended.

October Through April

Cool-season weather can be less predictable. Early-morning temperatures may be considerably cooler than afternoon temperatures, so dressing in layers is recommended.

Consider bringing:

  • An undershirt or moisture-wicking base layer
  • A pullover shirt or sweater
  • A medium-weight jacket
  • Jeans or comfortable pants
  • Shorts underneath for warmer afternoons
  • Soft-soled, non-marking shoes
  • Thermal clothing during colder weather
  • A hat, polarized sunglasses, and sunscreen

Rain gear is recommended throughout the year.

Airports and Transportation

The primary commercial airports serving the Lake Okeechobee area include Orlando International Airport and Palm Beach International Airport. Driving time will vary depending on your destination, traffic, and road conditions.

Rental cars are available at both airports. Guests should confirm current travel times and transportation arrangements before their trip.

Catch-and-Release Conservation

Captain Clyde strongly encourages the release of all trophy bass and practices responsible catch-and-release fishing.

Your trophy can be photographed, weighed, and measured before being safely returned to the water. These measurements and photographs can then be used to create a high-quality replica mount—allowing you to preserve the memory while helping protect Florida’s trophy bass fishery for future generations.
